About a year and a half ago, I remember sitting at work and having my coworkers talk about Pinterest, and how addicting it was. One coworker said that her 17-year-old daughter was using Pinterest to plan her wedding and decorate a nursery. Initially I was a bit confused, as her daughter wasn’t seriously involved with anyone, nor was she pregnant. Then I got an invite, and I was hooked. I learned that I didn’t have to use it to plan weddings or decorate my nursery… I could pin recipes and crafts. I hadn’t been using my craft supplies in several years, and they had been boxed up and stored away. Pinterest inspired me to get out my cardstock and heatgun and ink pads and yarn and all the other craft supplies gathering dust in my house.
One of the first projects that I fell in love with is a Valentine’s Day wreath that went viral on Pinterest. I’m sure that you’ve seen the felt wreath from the Idea Room:
It was beautiful, and after reading her post, I knew that I could make one. One year ago, I finished up a beautiful red felt wreath that looked just like the stunning one in the picture. Unfortunately, one year ago, I also had an 8-month-old puppy (AKA Buster Black) running through my house. Somehow Buster managed to get a hold of the just completed wreath on the kitchen table. In case you were wondering, foam wreath forms and felt are not doggy-proof. Not to be deterred, I salvaged what I could of the 3-inch felt circles, and cut a few more out. I went to Hobby Lobby and got a new wreath form, and a week or so before Valentine’s Day 2012, a new wreath hung on my front door.
This year, it’s hanging on my back door. It’s patiently waiting for the rest of the Valentine’s Day decorations to be set up.
It’s also the inspiration for the Valentine’s Day project that I have been working on for the past 4 days. I’m hoping that my next Valentine’s Day project will be ready to share on Friday. It all depends on how many of those dang felt circles I can cut out between now and then!
It’s beautiful! I would have been devastated if I had a puppy that destroyed it because I’m sure it took a lot of work (if something destroyed my felt Valentine’s wreath I definitely would have cried…a lot). You did a really great job! It looks just like the one from Pinterest!

I was pretty upset, but I was initially more worried that he might have swallowed some of the straight pins. He didn’t know any better, but I’m careful now about leaving things too close to the edge of the kitchen table– who knew!?
Don’t you just love pets? We now only have 2 dogs and 2 cats but we had 3 dogs and 4 cats (along with 5 kids) at one time!

It IS hard during the formative years when it is mostly work with no payback. But the rewards will come when you’ve given your all to your family.

Very pretty. I made a circle felt wreath for V-Day several years ago. It was a lot of work but was so pretty in the end. Great job.
