MM and I were working on a couple of projects this past weekend. We’re actually still working on them, and they are the subject of other posts. However, we had several cans of spray paint sitting out in the kitchen. I have gotten rather enamored of the Rust-Oleum Gloss Regal Red, and was admiring the red coat hooks I painted earlier this year. Directly above the hooks is a light switch, and I always grimace when I see it. It seems dingy, and there is just so much knotty pine in our knotty pine family room and kitchen. See what I mean:
While MM was in another room, providing creative expertise on our other DIY projects, I grabbed a screwdriver from our junk drawer, removed the light plate cover, and headed outside. I spray painted the switch plate red, and was so pleased with the bright color, that I came back inside and removed another one to paint.
When I started painted, I realized that MM and I might end up not liking the red, but switch plates aren’t terribly expensive. Plus, I knew I hated what we had. In the end, they came out so glossy and red and pretty! Hey, that’s what I got from a can labeled Regal Red Gloss:
I realized that the brownish screws would have to be painted red too, so I got the tops of all of the screws. Initially, I thought I would need to cover all of the screws with several coats, but then I remembered it was only the tops of the screws that would show.
I put up one and showed it to MM, and we both liked the end result! We decided to paint all of the switch plates in our family room the Regal Red color, and I’m very happy how my sneaky household project turned out!
